Clear & Clean Research Award 2015 Goes to Udo Riss

On 26 June, Yuko and Win Labuda, the founders of the Clear & Clean Research Laboratory, presented the Clear & Clean Research Award to the Ratzeburg researcher Udo Riss (center in the photo) for his theory of electro-dynamically derived antibody-antigen affinity. Udo Riss studied mechanical engineering from 1978 to 1983 at TU Braunschweig and received his diploma in 1984. In 1988 he completed his doctorate in engineering with a dissertation entitled “Transmission Ellipsometry of Optical Anisotropic Components and Systems”. In conjunction with his technical developments in the field of submonolayer ellipsometry, Riss discovered a widefield affinity between antigens and antibodies in the interaction kinetics between human antibodies and recombinant antigens. A summary of his theory and the mathematical proof of principle of his findings were published in a paper entitled “Theory of Long Distance Interaction between Antibodies and Antigens” in the June 2011 issue of the European Biophysics Journal.
